For the family
Our highest priority is the safety, security and happiness of your children.
Registered Nannies
Some of our nannies are already Ofsted registered. Many employers are using the childcare voucher scheme (www.childcarevouchers.co.uk) therefore you can save tax and national insurance on the first £55 of her weekly salary.
For details of the registration scheme you have to contact Ofsted. To register, your nanny should call 08456 404040 or fill in the online form at www.ofsted.gov.uk. The cost of registration is currently £108 which includes the cost of a CRB disclosure. The registration fee is usually paid by the parents as they stand to gain financially. Registration can take 12-16 weeks to complete.
No actual qualifications are required, just evidence that she has knowledge of the common core skills. She also needs to have a First Aid Certificate, your nanny should already have this anyway.
The registration is completed once your nanny has public liability insurance; it costs £66 for a year. Please click on: www.mortonmichel.co.uk/nanny/intro.htm.

Your immediate responsibilities
Tax and National Insurance Contributions
You have a responsibility to pay tax and national insurance. There is often a temptation to pay cash but this is illegal and you can be fined and charged interest by the Inland Revenue for unpaid tax. We recommend to our clients:
- For tax advice click on our links page. It is also the employer's duty to pay the nanny's tax and NICs (as well as employer's NICs), even if the nanny is a foreign student, as long as she is resident in the UK (www.hmrc.gov.uk)
- If you wish to look at ways of reducing your tax liability, then you should look at the possibility of claiming the childcare tax credit or using childcare vouchers issued by your employer/company www.childcarevouchers.co.uk
- You are also responsible for paying your employee's statutory sick pay, statutory maternity pay and holiday pay. If you wish the nanny to accompany you on holiday, then please note that this does not count towards the nanny's annual leave and she will need to be paid as normal. Also if you want the nanny to take some of her holiday when you take holiday, this should be specifically stated in the contract
- You must ensure that your household insurance policy covers you for employers and public liability insurance (www.directline.com or customer hotline: 08452468585)
